Building Permits
A building permit is required to perform work on most buildings or structures within the city limits. Some examples include, new construction, additions, renovations, interior remodeling, finishing a basement, building a garage, adding a deck, plumbing, heating/cooling, changing use of a building, etc.
All building permits require some form of supporting documentation. That documentation can range from a simple detailed description of the size and type of water heater to be installed to full professionally rendered plans and specifications. Review the links below for basic information on how to begin a building permit application. After you have reviewed this information please contact the Building Department.
Each building permit issued is required to have a minimum of one (1) final inspection. Most projects require several inspections to verify code compliance. All inspections require 24-hour notice and notification is the responsibility of the permit holder.
The rule of thumb is “Never cover any construction component before it is inspected”.
